New Books!

This is what I am currently working on!!

The Fall of Gadaie

Excerpt from book one:

Mary wants to kill them.
But someone stands in her way…

In Mary’s defense, she wasn’t always this way.

Mary

“Mary,” Alex whispered. He sat in the cell next to hers. “What are you reading?”

She didn’t respond. Her eyes stayed glued to the pages of The Wizard of Oz. She inched forward reading each word with passion and excitement. Her skin was pale and her eyes a light blue unlike the eyes of her brothers and sisters. Everyone else had glowing green eyes. Maybe from the chemicals their father injected into them, maybe from the changes their bodies were experiencing. She liked the fact that her eyes were normal. It meant she was safe from father. He didn’t experiment on her as much. She was a dud according to him; unchangeable.

“Mary,” Alex said again. “Read to me please. I’m scared. Father says today is gonna be my day. He says he’s going to really change me this time.”

She looked up. Alex was a few years older, maybe ten with sandy brown hair. His eyes used to be brown as mud but that was before father took him into the back room.

“I’ll read to you,” Mary decided, turning the pages back to the beginning. “How is it I know how to read and you can’t?”

“I never went to school for very long.” He answered. “But, I remember some words like that sign up above the door it says ‘exit’. That’s what I’d like to do. Escape through the exit.”

“Do you want to escape with me, Alex?”

“Mary, if I could get out of here then I’d never come back. Never ever.”

“Who would I play with then?” She frowned. “I hope you never escape.”

“That’s selfish.”

“I don’t care.”

“Just read something to me, Mary.”

“What if we both were able to escape?” She leaned her forehead against the bars, intertwining her fingers with the metal. “Would you stay with me forever then?”

“I dunno,” Alex yawned. “I want to hear something, to keep my mind off what father has planned for me. Tell me about that world of yours.”

“The only way to get into Gadaie is across the golden bridge.” She closed her eyes. “You have to swim through Merworld where the merloonies live.”

“The what?” Alex scratched his head. “What’s a merloonie?”

“Remember that Peter Pan book I read you? The one with the mermaids?” Mary grinned now.

“Well, the Merloonies are similar to those mermaids. They are half fish half loonie.”

“What is a loonie?”

“My very own people or subjects I guess. They love me and will do anything I ask of them. I love them too.”

“So now you are a Queen?” Alex laughed. “Oh Mary, you’ve got some imagination.”

“I wish they were real.” Mary admitted. She lay down on the cement bench. It cooled her cheek.

Alex patted her on the shoulder through the bars. “I wish it was real too. Then I would run away with you and I’d live in that Funhouse Zone you told me about.”

Mary sat up. “Would you live in one of my mushroom homes?”

“Sure, why not?” Alex grinned. “I think taking a rollercoaster to each home is kinda a cool way to get around.”

“I know!” Mary giggled, “And last week I decided there should be a place called Candy Lane like that game they advertised in the back of The Neverending Story.”

“I wish Father would let us play games.” Alex sighed. “That would help pass the time.”

“I like reading.”

“Well, I guess if I knew how I would read too.”

“I don’t think father would let you read. He says he has plans for you.”

Alex walked away to the other end of his cell. “I don’t want to talk about what Father has planned for me.”

“Stop all the noise.” Lily growled. “Mary, go to sleep. Put those silly books down and stop dreaming. Life is not a fairytale.”

“Okay, Mother.” Mary sighed. She lay back and stared at the grey wall. Water seeped through a tiny crack. It dripped down, splattering against her forehead. How could anything, even water, want to enter this place? “Mom,” Mary called, “Did you love him?”

Lily hid her face in between her knees. “No.”

“Nor did I love her.” Father stomped into the lab, his white cloak flapping. “You were supposed to be my prodigy. But Mary, you’re just a dud; a useless financial expense to me. If you don’t produce results soon I’ll have to eliminate you.”

Mary’s heart pounded. Would he really kill her? His own flesh and blood?

Lily jumped up, stretching her hands outside the bars. “I’ll kill you if you hurt my daughter!”

“You could never hurt me. I am your father-your creator.”

“I’d love to kill you.” Lily growled. “It would make me very happy.”

Father stood in front of Lily’s cell with his hands on his hips. “That’s the spirit. The angrier you become the more you change. I can’t wait to see the final results.”

“Leave her alone!” Mary screamed. “I hate you!” Her small face smashed against the bars and her fingers gripped firmly around them.

“Relax child,” Father rolled his eyes, “Alex is who I’m working on today.” He unlocked the cell and grabbed the boy by the arm.

“No, I don’t want to go!” Alex cried. “Let me go. Stop. Lily, make him stop.”

Lily covered her face and sobbed. “I’m so sorry Alex.”

“Mom,” Mary’s lip quivered, “Why don’t you stop father? You’re the oldest.”

“I’m only sixteen.” Lily rocked back and forth. “I just want to die.”

“No!” Mary wiped her eyes. She watched Father drag Alex away into the dark. The other children cried too. A dozen of them begged Father to release Alex.

Father set Alex on a metal table. He held him down with leather hand and leg cuffs. “Father, please!” Alex jerked about. “It hurts, the changes always hurt.”

He held a long needle in his hand. Father flicked the instrument and light green liquid seeped out. Alex thrashed about, his heart pounding. “No!”

Father jabbed the needle into Alex’s ten year old hip. “This batch will work. Alex, you will be amazing!”

“Let him go!”

“Father, please!”

“Alex is the perfect test subject. His DNA is easy to alter. He adapts best to changes too. He’s nearly perfect in every way.” Father frowned when his eyes set on Lily. “Lily, I always thought so much of you. But, that child you gave me is not working out. I am going to have to trash her.”

“You will not!” Lily twitched. Her body convulsed. She stood on her knees and rested against the palms of her hands.

“What’s happening to my mom?” Mary cried. She recoiled into the corner of her cell.

Lily’s skin ripped. Long legs protruded out of her hip bone and her shoulders. A thorax burst its way through her back. She screamed. “What’s happening to me?”

Mary covered her ears. “MOMMY!”

“It’s happening!” Father exclaimed. He hurried over to Lily’s cage. “The experiment worked. My girl is changing! They thought I was mad. MAD!? But, I knew all along that I could do it. If this one works then all of my experiments will work.” He turned into Mary’s direction and pointed at the little girl. “That means you get to live.”

A New Twist on A Classsic

Alice in Wonderland

In theaters March 5, 2010 stars Anne Hathaway, Johnny Depp and Matt Lucas in a new take on the classic Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton. You can see this movie in 3-D as well!

Alice, played by Mia Wasikowski, now 19 years old, goes back through the Rabbit Hole - the one she'd gone through years ago as a youngster - in a new adventure; one where she gets to take on the Red Queen and hopefully end her tyranny upon the inhabitants.

Alice's old friends The Mad Hatter, Rabbit and even the Cheshire Cat are back too.

FACEinHOLE

Create your own FACEinHOLE

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

The best part of a date is when you get to scream and grab onto your boyfriend. He pretends that he hasn't peed his pants and then casually wraps his arm around you with a smirk on his face. You smile and hide yourself inside his shirt, happy to have finally had the opportunity to touch him. Which villains are your best choice for snuggle up dates? This is your blockbuster/tv night list for next week!

There isn't a woman alive who wants to see Denzel Washington as the bad guy. In Training Day, he plays bad cop Alonso Harris. The intensity of his role ensures constant arm grabbing and a much needed rescue after the movie is over!

To this day, whenever The Terminator Aires, popcorn bowls fly and men and women sit frozen together in silence as the beloved Arnold Schwarzenegger hunts down Sarah Conner. No one sleeps alone or with the lights out after watching this!

Okay, we remember Tom Cruise flipping bottles of liquor, dancing around in his underwear and that cocky smile of his... Does a woman like to see such a gorgeous man play the role of Vincent in the movie Collateral? A part of him takes out bad guys but you still need to hold a nice strong man's hand through it.

If you've ever been a fan of the TV series Farscape then the name Scorpius, played by Wayne Pygram, sends shivers down your spine. The half Sebacean, half Scarran hunts the gorgeous John Crichton, played by Ben Browder, puts him the aurora chair (torture chair), injects a neural clone in his brain and kills anyone who gets in his way; or just because he feels like it. He is a villain with a purpose which makes him all the more dangerous to anyone he meets. Never doubt him or question him. For if you do, you'll find him plotting your elimination. Grab your boyfriend, husband or date. You are going to need each other to get through an episode of Scorpius.

And, my favorite of all? The one that airs every Monday night. Yes, Hero's villain Sylar played by Zachary Quinto. He is a newer actor without a past of happy go lucky movies/shows to remind you that he isn't really the bad guy. Uh huh, the serial killer who at first you hate him for slicing brains in half so that he can take their 'powers' for himself but then love after you see him do small acts of kindness that seem out of his character and then hate him again when he betrays them after all. That's right, Sylar is the face you see at night when you hear your clock tick-tick-ticking in the background. Roll over and stay close to the one you love and pray you don't have a special ability that he desires.

Uglies, Pretties & Specials Review

Written by Scott Westerfeld, this series is considered young adult/science fiction.

Plot:

Uglies

Tally Youngblood starts out as an ‘ugly’. While her best friend has already joined the operated youth called ‘pretties’ she sets out on a mission to find out about those who refuse the required treatments and in the end, finds out a horrible secret connected to these ‘operations’.

Pretties

Without spoiling the book, I just say this was my favorite of the trilogy. It shows that even when someone tries to change you and make you conform, there is always hope that you can overcome it.

Specials

The force that instills fear in the uglies and the pretties is a ’special’ ops force. They have special abilities and now, they want Tally. But, she has other things in mind-like taking down the Specials.

Overall Sratsfaction:

4 out of 5 stars – the books did take some time to get to the point but overall, I really enjoy Scott Westerfeld as a writer.

Pros:

Fantastic new age world, complex characters, great villains

Cons:

drags a little, worst heroine ever! [she is perfectly human in that she makes every mistake and disloyalty error known to mankind]

Remember Joe Cartoon?

With all of the new flash and animation sites out there, I am getting a little sad for Joe Cartoon. His site was at the top ten years ago. His ideals are the same and his jokes just as crude. He is worth remembering with his 'xploding toons.

Frog in a blender, gerbil in a blender...

Some Books

Some Books worth checking out. I wrote them...hehe ;0) They have previews that you can read. If anything I would just love for someone to give me their opinion!

Funny Icons from Photobucket!

I thought these were worth sharing...

All About Steve

Mary loves crossword puzzles and her red rain boots. She is highly intelligent and beats her own drum. Then, she meets Steve. She thinks it is love at first sight and when she loses her job due to her new found obsession with Steve-she sets off to follow him with a little persuasion from a selfish wanna-be anchorman.

All and all, a funny movie and I give it a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Something you could take your husband or boyfriend too and he won't mind this chick flick too much.

Midnight Sun - The Fifth Twilight Book

The Host is out and so is Breaking Dawn... Stephenie Meyer was devastated when over 200 pages of her new book, Midnight Sun leaked out. [Personally, I would be too] Fed up and left without any desire to finish, she decided to put it down - possibly indefinitely.

Even so, petitions have been made such as this one with over 300,000 + names and numerous emails have found their way to poor Seth, her brother and webmaster too. Her blog post said once she was finished with Breaking Dawn that she would continue working on the novel, Midnight Sun with no time constraints. But, can you wait? Should you still sign the petitions and use this to encourage her to get writing? If was, after all, our fault that she stopped writing it in the first place! [Not all of us, okay, but the ones who couldn't wait..You know who you are ;o)]

On another note, twilight fans fell in love with Edward Cullen but, in it's sequel, Jacob Black gives Edward a run for his money. There are Team Edward and Team Jacob sites and blogs popping up everywhere. Has Stephenie Meyer created the perfect love triangle for her fans? Well, you be the judge come November 20th, 2009!!

One of the most anticipated movies, New Moon, hits theaters November 20th, 2009.

"Don't Give Up," Said Mom

Christina Black's mother has cancer and her father, well, he's vanished. It seems the only good things in her life lately are Harry, the Butler, Mariana, her best friend-who can't seem to stay out of trouble and skateboarding-which she isn't all the great at. Oh and there is this guy named Michael Gray too...
